Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and YangaLandlord Limited for YangaLandlord, YangaTenant, YangaVerify and the Digital Property Agent programme. Please read them. By creating an account or using the services you accept them.

1. Who we are and how to reach us

The services are provided by YangaLandlord Limited (RC 9568033), a company registered in Nigeria. In these terms "we", "us" and "Yanga" mean YangaLandlord Limited.

For legal notices and questions about these terms, write to legal@yangalandlord.com. For help with the product, use the help assistant inside the product.

2. The services

YangaLandlord is for landlords and the people who work with them. A landlord can set up properties and units, record tenancies, make tenancy agreements and statutory notices, collect rent, keep receipts and records, and invite team members. Team members carry a title (agent or caretaker, lawyer) so tenants know who they are dealing with; what a team member may do on each property is set by the landlord, and a few actions stay with the landlord alone (signing as landlord, bank details, deleting records, managing the team).

YangaTenant is for tenants. A tenant can see their tenancy, sign their agreement, pay rent, receive receipts and notices, keep their contact details current, buy an address certificate, and share Yanga Moments cards.

YangaVerify lets anyone check a document or certificate made on Yanga by its reference code, on the web or by e-mail. It shows only the fields printed on the document.

the Digital Property Agent programme lets a person refer landlords to Yanga with a referral code and earn a reward from the platform fee when a referred landlord's first rent clears, as described in section 10.

3. Your account

Landlords, their team and Digital Property Agents in Nigeria sign in with a phone number and a one-time code sent by SMS; abroad, with an e-mail address and a sign-in link. Tenants sign in with their phone number and a password.

Keep your phone number and e-mail address current. They are how we reach you and how you get back in. Changing the phone number on an account starts a short hold during which bank details cannot be changed; a transaction PIN protects changes to bank details.

Have one account per person. You are responsible for what is done under your sign-in, including by team members you invite. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

The services are for adults. By using them you confirm that you are 18 or older.

4. Free and Premium, and the platform fee

Setting up properties and units, recording tenancies, landlord reminders and team invites are free. Online rent collection, digital signing, the tenant portal, tenant-facing reminders, statutory notices and receipts are Premium.

Premium switches on for a unit when the first rent for a tenancy is paid through Yanga. That happens at a new tenancy or at a renewal, never part-way through a term.

The platform fee is one fee per tenancy, counted by calendar month of the term. It is added to the tenant's rent and shown to the tenant before they pay. The landlord pays nothing and receives the full rent. The fee amount is shown in the product and may change for new tenancies; a fee already set for a tenancy does not change.

Refunds. Yanga does not hold money. Rent and the platform fee are paid to the landlord by the payment provider, so Yanga cannot refund them. If a landlord withdraws from an agreement after the tenant has paid, the landlord refunds the tenant directly and the tenant confirms the refund through the link we send. A payment that fails or is charged in error is handled with the payment provider.

5. Payments

Payments and payouts are processed by Paystack or Flutterwave. Each provider has its own terms, which apply to the payment itself.

The provider pays the landlord's share into the bank account the landlord has verified in the product. Yanga never holds, pauses or reverses a tenant's payment.

If a payment is disputed with the provider or a bank, we will give the provider the records they need to resolve it.

6. Agreements, notices and e-signing

Yanga provides tenancy agreement templates and statutory notices that follow the rules of each State. They are tools. The landlord, or the lawyer the landlord works with, decides whether a document fits the situation and is responsible for how it is used.

Documents can be signed electronically through the product. A signature made this way is yours and binds you in the same way as a signature on paper, to the extent the law allows.

Yanga is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Nothing in the product is a substitute for advice from a lawyer about your own circumstances.

7. Records, certificates and verification

Tenancy records, move-in and move-out reports (which may include photographs and their location) and receipts are kept so both sides have the same account of a tenancy.

A tenant may buy an address certificate that confirms their tenancy at an address. A tenant can revoke their certificate; revocation is final, and a new certificate can be bought.

Anyone who verifies a document sees only the fields printed on it. A record that only one side has given is shown as that side's word; a record the tenant has disputed is marked as disputed.

8. Messages

We send one-time codes by SMS. Notices, reminders, receipts and other messages that are part of the service go by WhatsApp, SMS or e-mail, depending on how you signed up and what the message is.

Yanga Moments messages (section 9) go by WhatsApp or e-mail only. Every Moments message carries a stop link, and your Moments settings in the portal stop them too. Reminders about your sign-in details carry their own stop link.

Message charges from your network are yours. We do not send marketing SMS.

9. Yanga Moments

Yanga Moments are cards made for your milestones on Yanga, for you to share if you like. A tenant card carries only a first name, the State and the date. A landlord or Digital Property Agent card carries a name, the milestone, the State where it applies, and the date. No address, no amounts, no other party.

A card's page can be reached only by its link, and only you have the link until you share it. You can remove a card at any time, which takes its page down. From time to time Yanga makes a campaign card for a group of people; it follows the same rules.

When you share a card, its page links to the landlord sign-up page with your referral code in the form (section 10), so a landlord who signs up from your card is your referral. A landlord's own card carries no code.

10. The Digital Property Agent programme

A Digital Property Agent (DPA) has a referral code. A landlord who signs up with that code, or from a shared Moment card that carries it, is the DPA's referral. A tenant may also hold a referral code while a referral programme is running.

Rewards are funded from the platform fee and paid only after the referred landlord's first rent through Yanga clears. They are paid in stages, each after a hold period, up to the reward amount of the programme then running. Rewards in later years depend on the landlord confirming the agent's continued role. You cannot refer yourself or your own account.

A programme may be changed or ended. Stages already earned remain payable; a referral still waiting to qualify when a programme ends has the grace period set for that programme to qualify, after which it lapses. We may withhold or cancel a reward where we find abuse, fraud or a breach of these terms.

Payouts go to the bank account you have verified in the product, on the programme's payout schedule.

11. Acceptable use

  • Use the services only for genuine tenancies, properties and referrals that you are entitled to deal with.
  • Do not upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, infringing or harmful, or that belongs to someone else without their permission.
  • Do not try to get into another person's account, interfere with the services, scrape them, or send messages through them that the recipient has not agreed to.
  • Do not use the services to break the tenancy, consumer or data protection laws of Nigeria or of the place where you are.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, after telling you unless the law or the safety of others prevents it.

12. Your content and ours

What you put into the services (property details, documents, photographs, messages) stays yours. You give us the right to store, show and process it as needed to run the services for you and the people you deal with.

The services, their design, their templates and the Yanga marks belong to us or our licensors. You may use them only as the services allow.

13. Availability, changes and warranties

We work to keep the services available and accurate, but we cannot promise that they will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or withdraw features, and we will give reasonable notice of changes that matter to you.

The services are provided as they are. To the extent the law allows, we give no warranty beyond what these terms say and what the law requires.

14. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Otherwise, our total liability to you for all claims connected with the services in any twelve-month period is limited to the platform fees received by us for your tenancies in that period, or ₦100,000 if that is greater. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, or indirect loss, nor for the acts of a landlord, tenant, agent, lawyer or payment provider.

You agree to compensate us for claims by others that arise from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the services.

15. Suspension and closing an account

A tenant can close their account from the portal; a landlord or Digital Property Agent can ask us to close theirs by writing to ${C.legalEmail}. Records that we must keep by law, or that another party to a tenancy is entitled to, are kept for the periods in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close an account for a breach of these terms, for a legal requirement, or for a risk to the services or to other users.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute that cannot be settled between us is subject to the courts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. For a change that affects your rights or fees we will tell you in the product or by message before it takes effect. Using the services after the change means you accept it.
